Fixer in Vietnam – Filming Hon Nghe, Tumeric, island
Hon Nghe located in Kien Luong district – Kien Giang Province. This destination is also known as the southern Ha Long Bay with more than 300 limestone islands and islets around the bay. But somehow, it’s still unheard to tourists because at the moment, there is limited transportation and modest accomodations there.
As a Fixer in Vietnam, My client and I traveled there 3 years ago to do some filming about the island and its salt water fish farming on the bay. To get there, we had to rent a boat and it takes around 1 hours. The island is quite small and the name says it all. Hon Nghe means tumeric island. The beach there is clean and beautiful. The people are super friendly. If you are looking for an exotic location to travel to, this is the place for you.
The fishermen here farm salt water fish underneath their floating houses. There are more than 1 thousand houses like that in the area. We did some interviews with the local fishermen and had some beautiful drone shots from above.
How to get to Hon Nghe island (tumeric island):
If you are in Ho Chi Minh City, you have to take a sleeper bus to Rach Gia City and from there, take another bus to Kien Luong district.
If you are already in Chau Doc City, take a bus to Ha Tien and travel down to Kien Luong.
After that, rent a boat to get there or wait to join other people.
What to eat in the island:
Seafood, seafood, and seafood. It’s freshly caught and taste a lot better than in other cities.
Where to stay in Hon Nghe island.
You can travel there one day and back to Kien Luong to sleep. If you wish to sleep over night in the island, you can stay at some local guest houses there.
Hope you will enjoy your trip to the island. If you can’t find your answer in this article, please contact me over instagram.
